Certified Rolfer
My first Rolfing session with Chris left me feeling more alive than I had felt in months. This unique therapy not only helped with my immediate pain, but also addressed the deeper pain I'd been experiencing for years. I'm definitely coming back!

Why is it called "Rolfing® Structural Integration”?
After Dr. Ida Rolf, who invented it. Although she wished her work to be termed "Structural Integration," it quickly became known by its nickname. "Rolfing" is now the brand name for the type of Structural Integration taught at the Rolf Institute for Structural Integration, which Dr. Rolf founded. For more on Dr. Rolf, go to History page.
Is Structural Integration a kind of massage?
No. Structural Integration developed separately from massage, with different goals and techniques. My goal as a Rolfer ™ is to help balance your structure, so that your body can sit, stand, and move in healthier ways. I work with connective tissue, rather than muscles, and my movements are slower than massage movements. While Structural Integration sometimes works with deep tissue, it is different from deep-tissue massage.
Is Structural Integration painful?
There are a variety of sensations that could arise during a session, including pleasure, relief, and discomfort. Sometimes these sensations can be intense, but at no time will I ask you to go beyond your pain tolerance, because it is unnecessary and makes our work less effective. If you feel comfortable, your body can react more effectively to what I'm doing. You are the one who decides how much is too much.
How long should I wait between sessions ?
Generally, spacing sessions somewhere from a week to a month apart is most beneficial during a series. I find that if too much time elapses between sessions, the mind and body forget some of what they have learned, and that if there's too little time the body can't completely process the changes.
After a Ten Series (the standard sessions), I would suggest that you
take several months to allow your body to adjust more fully to the benefits
of Integration. After that, you may wish to return for further work.
Some clients have continued improving for as long as two years following
a Ten Series. The body, once pointed in the right direction, can continue
to align itself over time.
How long do the benefits of Structural Integration last?
Structural Integration changes the direction in which the structure of your body continues evolving, as the changes made in your structure change the way you move, which in turn further reinforces the structure. Specific changes may or may not be permanent. That depends on factors such as the strength of your habitual patterns, workplace conditions, and the severity of any injuries.
Not every problem will disappear after Structural Integration. I can't make that promise. But I will help you improve the way your body works, and to help you become more aware of how to live in better health and greater comfort, which is a lifelong change.
